SD 53 History

Senate District 53 lost parts of White Bear Lake and White Bear Township after the 1990 Census and the subsequent redistricting. At the same time, the precincts in Little Canada and Maplewood were added, as were Blaine and Circle Pines precincts.

There will be another redistricting for the 2002 elections if a plan passes the legislature, is signed by the governor or a plan is imposed by the courts.

There is much speculation about the changes the next redistricting will bring. Some think the A-side will be merged with New Brighton. Others think the Blaine and Circle Pines precincts will be lost since they tend to vote DFL. For now, all we can do is wait and watch what is happening at the legislature.

The House has a redistricting committee and a redistricting web page.

The Senate also has a redistricting subcommittee of the Rules and Administration Committee.

This just in!! Here are maps showing the breakup of SD53 in the Senate and House redistricting plans.

For members of the SD53 DFL, there are color coded maps showing the precinct by precinct election results for the last five elections. If you wish to have access to this information, please send an e-mail message to webmaster@sd53.dfl4cd.org
